COMMUNITY CHURCH OF THE ROCKIES - SIGN VARIANCE - 1700 BRODIE AVE.;
Mr. Jack Spencer, representing the Community Church of the Rockies,
requested a variance to allow an additional freestanding sign in
the front yard of the church (Section 17.66.300). Mr. Spencer
stated that the church is allowed two signs, but only one sign can
be placed in the "front yard" as defined by Section 17.08.250 of
the Municipal Code. The proposed sign would be parallel to the
church and serve Brodie Avenue. The present sign is at the
intersection of Brodie Avenue and Fish Creek Road and serves Fish
Creek Road. Reverend Grether stated that the problem with signage
is that they have such a long frontage. People coming from the
west don't know which church they are at. Member A1 Sager questioned
the need for an additional sign in the "front yard" and referred
to the three conditions the Board of Adjustment must find in order
to grant a variance (Section 17.66.340 E). A discussion followed.
Member Margaret Houston moved the variance be granted. Member
Richard Wood seconded the motion. Those voting "Yes" Members
Robert E. Wagner, Richard A. Wood and Margaret Houston. Those
voting "No" Members Al Sager and Jerry Lamson. The variance
request was denied.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
