WHEREAS,small cities and towns under 50,000 population constitute the
vast majority of municipalities across the United States;and
WHEREAS,small cities and towns provide opportunities which allow
millions of people across America to lead better lives;and
WHEREAS,small cities and towns invest in their communities through the
provision of services and programs which improve the quality of life for all
citizens;and
WHEREAS,the federal government is a partner in investing in small cities
and towns,and must be encouraged to continue to support programs and
legislation to strengthen communities;and
WHEREAS,state governments are partners in investing in small cities and towns,and must also
be encouraged to continue to support programs and legislation to strengthen communities;and
WHEREAS,organizations,businesses,and citizens are partners in investing in small cities and
towns,and must be encouraged to continue to support efforts that make their communities better
places in which to live;and
WHEREAS,during these challenging economic times,the need for a renewed intergovernmental
partnership to support essential public services is more important than ever;and
WHEREAS,the Board of Directors and the Small Cities Council of the National League of Cities
have declared June 18,2005,as National Small Cities and Towns Day;and
WHEREAS,the Small Cities Council of the National League of Cities has challenged all cities,
towns,and villages across America to proclaim June 18,2005,as National Small Cities and Towns
Day,and to conduct activities -such as news conferences,public service announcements,and
events in local schools and community centers -on that day which highlight the different ways in
which the federal government,state governments,organizations,businesses,and citizens partner
with small cities and towns to invest in their communities and better the lives of all citizens;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of
Estes Park,proclaim June 18,2005
“National Small Cities and Towns Day”
The Town of Estes Park encourages President Bush,Congress,state governments,organizations,
businesses,and all citizens to recognize this event and to work together on this day and throughout
the year to invest in small cities and towns to better the lives of all citizens.
