PROCLAMATION Gibbs, Dorothy Scott 2016-05-07
frGkeLar7t art,(totorabo to clamatto II WREREAS,Dorothy Scott Gibbs and her family are deeply rooted in the pioneer history of Estes Park and the rustic hillside cottage in Moraine Park known as “The Scottage,”built in 1899 by her fraternal grandparents,Charles Frederick and May Ewing Scott of lola,Kansas;and WHEREAS,it was there,in the tranquility of Moraine Park above the meanderings of the Big Thompson River,that Dorothy Gibbs spent her childhood summers with her father and mother,Ewing and Dorothy Scott,her grandparents,aunts,uncles,and cousins,together with close and dear neighbors William Allen and Sallie Lindsay White, developing the deep love of the place and region that would provide inspiration and direction for the years that followed;and WHEREAS,Dorothy Gibbs and her late husband George,having retired from Ohio in 1994,returned to Estes Park to occupy her parents’home off Devils Gulch Road,“The Owl’s Nest,”lovingly preserving the studio- gallery where her accomplished mother,Dorothy Carnine Scott produced her widely-shown and much-praised lithographs and watercolors;and WHEREAS,Dorothy Gibbs,since 1995 and to the present,has demonstrated her dedication to the preservation and celebration of the natural beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park through some 4,300 hours as a volunteer ranger,giving of herself so others may come both to know and appreciate our mountain region;and WTHEREAS,over these same years Dorothy Gibbs,first with her husband and then on her own,has been dedicated and enthusiastic supporter and benefactor of the Estes Park Museum and the Museum Friends graciously sharing the treasure of her home during the Friends’Historic Home Tour in 2012;and WHEREAS,and above all else,Dorothy Gibbs is a woman of strong conviction and belief who has long-since become a wise counselor and steadfast friend to all who know her,exemplifying in all she says and does what is best and good about our Estes Park community,and,thereby,serving as an inspiration for us all; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby proclaim Dorothy Scott Gibbs the recipient of the 2017 Pioneer Award,presented by the Estes Park Museum Friends &Foundation,Inc.on this day,the 7th of May,2017. - In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused this seal to be affixed.
