HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION OF RESPECT Weaver, Jean 2015-04-14WHEREAS,Jean Weaver has served Estes Park in numerous
capacities for more than 60 years and is known affectionately as the
“Estes Valley Recycling Queen;”and
WHEREAS,through Jean’s unceasing efforts since 1975 to
initiate and maintain an active community recycling program,Estes Park
holds the distinction of having the second longest continuously operating
recycling program in the State of Colorado;and
WHEREAS,Jean ‘s passion for the environment extends to
Rocky Mountain National Park where she inaugurated one of the earliest
documented recycling programs and was subsequently honored with the
Park Stewardship Award and,later,Larimer County’s Environmental
Stewardship Award;and
WHEREAS,Jean,as an avid outdoorswoman has served as a
role model through her many adventures such as serving as a ski
instructor at Hidden Valley,successfully climbing all of the 13,000-foot
peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park,and supporting groundbreaking
research on tundra vegetation by working with Dr.Katherine Bell at the
isolated Rock Cabins on Trail Ridge Road under winter conditions;and
WHEREAS,Jean demonstrated her patriotism and commitment
to the ideals of informed participation in government through her many
contributions to the League of Women Voters of Estes Park,
participation in the Bear Education Task Force,and serving as an
advocate for peace through years of peaceful demonstration in Bond
Park.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and
Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park,by this Resolution and
Public Record,recognize the dedication and accomplishments of Jean
Weaver and express profound appreciation for her service to our
community.-
