HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION OF RESPECT Udall, Mark Emery 2015-01-13(9%ice 4 the .Mayo%,oteo Coto*ack RESOLUTION Of RESPECT WHEREAS,Mark Emery Udall served the State of Colorado as a United States Senator from 2009 to 2015;having previously served five consecutive terms in the United States House of Representatives,representing Colorado’s 2nd congressional district;and WHEREAS,during his tenure,Mark Udall played a significant role on the Committee on Armed Services,Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the Select Committee on Intelligence;and throughout his career he proposed legislation to support renewable energy,expand national parks,and protect natural resources;and WHEREAS,as a lifelong outdoorsman and leader of the Colorado Outward Bound School for 10 years,Mark recognized the importance of Colorado’s wilderness to our economy and our special way of life.In Congress, he championed proposals to protect Colorado’s wilderness,and he led the effort to pass the Rocky Mountain National Park Wilderness and Indian Peaks Wilderness Expansion Act,which designated nearly 250,000 acres of Rocky Mountain National Park as Wilderness;and WHEREAS,as a senior member of the U.S.Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee,Senator Mark Udall joined Senator John McCain toured Rocky Mountain National Park to learn about climate change in Rocky Mountain National Park,and conducted a Field Hearing of the Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee at the Estes Park Town Hall board room and heard testimony from parks officials and scientists about how global warming is harming the park system;and WHEREAS,Senator Mark Udall joined other Colorado Congressional members and addressed Congress to help reopen Rocky Mountain National Park during the 2013 Government shutdown;and thus enabled the economy of Estes Park,which depends heavily on tourism and Rocky Mountain National Park,to continue recovery from the devastating economic impact of the flood;and WHEREAS,following the 2013 Flood Senator Udall toured the National Park and Estes Valley flood areas and met with local officials to understand flood recovery efforts and needs,and actively pursued federal government funding to assist with the recovery. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park,by this Resolution and Public Record,recognize the dedication and leadership ofliarkEmeiy Udati and express our profound appreciation for his service to our community,our state and our nation.
