ORDINANCE NO./
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING,INOCULATION,
REGULATION AND CONTROL OF DOGS WITHIN THE TOWN OF
ESTES PARK,COLORADO,AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE
VIOLATION OF THE ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF E$TES
PARK,COLORADO:
Section 1.It shall be unlawful for the owner,possessor
or keeper of any dog to keep the same within the corporate
limits of Estes Park,Colorado,without securing a license for
such dog from the Town Clerk of the Town of Estes Park.
Section 2.It shall be unlawful for the owner,possessor
or keeper of any dog to keep such dog within the corporate
limits of the Town of Estes Park,Colorado,unless said dog
shall have been inoculated against rabies at least once every
twelve (12)months.
Section 3.The Town Clerk is hereby authorized to issue
a license for the keeping of a dog within the Town of Estes
Park,Colorado,upon application by the owner,possessor or
keeper thereof and the submission of evidence that said dog
has been inoculated against rabies within twelve (12)months
of the date of the application and upon payment of a license
fee of Two Dollars (2.OO)for each dog licensed.All such
licenses shall expire on the lath day of September following
the date of the issuance of the license.
Section 4.It shall be the duty of the Town Clerk to
deliver to each person obtaining a license hereunder a dog
tag fOr each dog so licensed.Every owner,possessor or keeper
of a dog within the Town of Estes Park shall place upon such
dog a collar or harness made of durable material to which the
dog tag herein provided shall be attached and it shall be
unlawful for any person to affix to the collar or harness of
any dog any dog tag except that issued for that particular dog.

A duplicate tag may be obtained from the Town Clerk should the
original dog tag be lost or destroyed.
Section 5.The Town Clerk shall keep a record of the date of the
issuance of each dog tag,the person to whom such tag is issued,the
number thereof,and a description of the dog licensed.
Section 6.It shall be unlawful for the owner,possessor or keeper
of any dog to permit the same to run about or at large within the cor
porate limits of the Town of Estes Park.A dog shall be deemed to be
running about or at large within the meaning of this ordinance when the
dog is off or away from the premises of its owner,possessor or keepter
and beyond the immediate supervision or control of its owner,possessor
or keeper or any other person who has authority over the sane.
Section 7.Any police officer of the Town of Estes Park may impound
any dog which is found within the Town of Estes Park which is running
about or at large or is not licensed as herein provided.The Chief of
Police or any police officer may issue a warning notice to the owner,
possessor or keeper of said dog that the same is in the Town of Estes
Park in violation of this ordinance provided,however,that if a
warning notice has been issued to such owner,possessor or keeper within
two (2)years i’minediately prior to the violation then in question,said
dog shall be impounded.The warning notice shall be in writing and shall
be served on the owner,possessor or keeper either personally or sent by
regular mail to the last Imown address of said owner,possessor or keeper.
Section .The Chief of Police is hereby authorized to establish
a dog pound to be operated by the Town or,with the approval of the Board
of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park,the Chief of Police may contract
for such a pound with private persons or with public agencies having dog
pound facilities.All dogs so impounded shall be properly housed and
cared for.

Section 9.Upon the impoundment of any dog it shall be the duty of
the Chief of Police to notify the owner,possessor or keeper of said dog
in writing that the dog has been impounded and will be released upon the
payment of a pound service fee of Three Dollars (3.OO)together with the
sum of l.50 for each day of impoundment for board and room.
The notice shall be served either personally or by registered mail addrossed
to the last known address of the owner,possessor or keeper.If the owner
is not known,the notice shall be posted in the Town Ull for a period of
three (3)days and such notice shall contain a description of the dog im
pounded.
